Ask for their industry credentials? Truly devoted pool companies will have a pride about what they do (it’s a “pool guy” thing) and will gladly tell you about their certifications. Most of which come by the way of the APSP (Association of Pool & Spa Professionals). This membership is essential to knowing the company you’re choosing for your pool project is committed to the industry and continuing their knowledge in the field. At Lusk Pools, we feel it’s imperative to continue to educate ourselves in the field and have been a proud member of ASAP for over 25 years.
Know Who You’re Dealing With… One question we’ve been asked multiple times is: What’s the best way to find out about the company I am dealing with? We’ve all heard the horror stories of pools left for someone else to finish. We always tell homeowners these 2 things:
- (1) Check with Secretary Of State where the business is created and documented. Look it up the by the business owner’s and company’s name. If you find out that the company has recently changed their name or phone number- that might be a red flag.
- (2) Rather than receiving just two or three references provided by the contractor, see if they will give you a list of 20-30 references so that you can choose which ones to call. Any contractor who has been in business long enough will have kept a list this long, and the trustworthy ones won’t care which ones you call because all of them will have nice things to say.
